The Autism Project Celebrates 25 Years of Impact

When The Autism Project (TAP) was founded in 1997, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) were not yet collecting data on autism in children. In 2000, when the CDC’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network began calculating the prevalence of autism, it stated that one in 150 children carried an autism diagnosis.

TAP Begins 25th Anniversary Celebration with New Logo

Johnston, Rhode Island The Autism Project is celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. Established in 1997, TAP continues to educate the community on how to best engage with and to support autistic people at home, school, the community, and workforce.

TAP is a ‘Hub of Hope©’ that connects people—with a spectrum of needs—to the available resources and education that support independent and purposeful lives. “We’ve grown over 25 years,” commented Joanne Quinn, executive director, “but, our mission remains focused on improving the lives of individuals with autism.”

“We wanted to mark our anniversary with a logo that represents our work beyond children and reflects our role as a hub for families and professionals to access training, information and support,” said Quinn.

TAP works to their organization’s mission by providing support to family members and caregivers, parent education, professional training and technical support for schools, medical staff and first responders, employers, and community organizations, social skills groups, and summer camp.

There are many events planned to include the 20th Annual Imagine Walk on April 24, 2022, at Goddard State Memorial Park in Warwick, RI. “It’s going to be a very big celebration,” said Quinn, “and we can’t wait to see everyone in-person, in the park!”
