Pre-Recorded Webinars
Understanding Autism
In "Understanding Autism," parents will gain an understanding of 2 core areas associated with the autism diagnosis and how these areas impacts our child’s communication, regulation, and experience of the world.
Supporting Communication
This training provides information on communication challenges/differences and the impact they have on autistic people. We will discuss the various forms of communication (verbal and nonverbal) and how best to support our children as their ability to communicate develops.
Visual Supports in Practice
Participants will learn how to create and use visuals to better support autistic individuals by increasing independence, promoting communication, and reducing challenging behaviors at home. We will learn how to teach, “wait”, “help” and how to ask for a “break” using visual supports. Participants will also learn about Social Narratives and other strategies used to explain a given situation and provide strategies to navigate it. Lastly, we will learn about how to use a countdown timer for successful transitions.
Positive Behavior Supports
Participants will learn how to proactively support behavioral challenges in the home. This training provides participants with information and tools to help parents view challenging behavior through a different lens. Discussion related to communication and regulation challenges/differences, coexisting conditions, and possible motivation of behaviors will help parents to support their child's unique neurology in a therapeutic environment.
Supporting Self-Regulation
Most autistic people experience the world in an atypical way. Some may be hypersensitive to input. Others are hyposensitive. Most are a combination of these two sensory responses. Participants will discuss the 8 sensory systems and strategies to assist with regulation.
Positive Advocacy
Having a child with special needs often means we need to navigate many complex systems. We will discuss how to form a positive team of professionals around our children. We will also discuss special education law, IDEA, what an IEP and 504 plans are, and how they benefit our children.
Toilet Training
A one-of-a-kind workshop offering strategies to support children of all ages.
